Having Organic Food Delivered: Advantages and Disadvantages
Defined Tag: Organic Food Delivered.
Having organic food delivered to your doorstep has its advantages and its disadvantages. This article aims to look at both the advantages and the disadvantages, and help you make an informed decision about whether this option is right for you.
There are two distinct kinds of delivery; one involves ordering an item, such as a gift basket, and having it sent to you USPS or UPS or another parcel delivery system. This method is fairly straightforward, and requires no explanation.
The other method is to sign up for a delivery system that will, in essence, deliver organic food to your doorstep at set intervals. This is the system which this article will deal with.
The primary advantage of such a system is, of course, convenience. At a point where even a trip to the store is time out of an already full day, the idea of having food delivered to your doorstep is appealing.
Most food delivery programs, organic ones included, allow you to choose your level of participation. If you have a small family, or only want to purchase a small amount of organic food, you can choose a smaller (and cheaper) program. Sometimes (not always) you can also choose how often to have food delivered; once a week, once every two weeks, once a month, etc. Deciding on a program depends largely on how many people are in your family, what percentage of your food supply you want to recieve through mail order, and how much money you can afford to spend.
This latter is the greatest disadvantage of the programs. Organic food is expensive; having it delivered is doubly so. Many times, the sheer cost of delivery puts organic food out of the reach of those who might be able to afford it at their local farmers' market, if such a place is available.
Also, having organic food arrive on your doorstep lacks some of the *je ne c'est pas* of selecting your own perfect organic apple at the local farmers' market. Organic food delivered directly to your home, however, is the next best thing in a world where no one has time to do that, anyway.
